Newsflash! Christianity Abandons Christ in Favor of Next President
What has happened within Western Christianity is appalling. We claim to be enlightened. We’re not. We claim to follow Christ. We don’t. We say that we believe that “Jesus is Lord” but have no idea what that even means.
We have abandoned the cross, the central symbol of defiance and victory. We act as if our hope lies in the winner of the upcoming election. It doesn’t.
I don’t know if God is laughing or crying about what He sees us doing but I’m pretty sure the devil’s laughing. “Look at those idiots. God gave them the world and they all hate each other.”
Few people realize that the message of Jesus was deeply political. It was a frontal assault to Caesar who, at the time, ruled the world and claimed to be Lord and Savior. Ring a bell?
The date written on almost every page across America signifies the number of the years of the reign of Christ – not Caesar. Yet somehow, modern Western Christianity seems totally oblivious to the Lordship of Christ and how he came to rule.
He wasn’t elected. He was crucified.
Have we missed the message entirely?
Here’s the truth. Whichever candidate wins the upcoming election in our insignificant part of the universe in this insignificant slice of time – whoever wins the election will answer to a crucified Jew who bet his life and won.
He won because he loved.
Maybe we can do the same?
